My Favorite Nude Lips

Ahhh...the search for the perfect nude lip. It seems like anything I have possibly picked up is either too cool, too warm, too ashy or too brown. I remember being 14 and buying my first "nude lip" at Duane Reade only to find out....I looked like a corpse. Being scared (and out of $4), I became religious to my rosy-brown lipsticks only. I have olive-yellow skin, so finding a good nude for my skintone isn't the easiest task!

After getting my makeup done by a Sephora Pro National Artist at New York's Meatpacking District, I was shocked to see how flattering the right nude could be. He helped me pick out the right tones and from there I was hooked. Here are some of my nude favorites that I have used religiously for some time now!

From left to right: NYX Butter Gloss in Praline, Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in Sandstone, NYX Lipliner in Soft Brown, Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in Venus, Sephora Collection Lipliner in  Light Brown, Bare Minerals Gen Nude Buttercream Lip Gloss in Tantalize and Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Stormy Sahara

I love both matte lips and glossy lips. However, I think especially for nude lips a satin to glossy finish is my preference. I think it looks beautiful and makes the face look more dimensional rather than flat. There is something so beautiful and glamorous about a glossy nude lip!

Below are some swatches to compare shades:

From Top to Bottom:

NYX Butter Gloss in Praline- This is the perfect hybrid of my obsession with brown lipsticks and a nude lip color. My lips are naturally a little red, so this gives me a very "your lips but better look". Not to mention the NYX Butter Gloss texture is amazing; it really does feel like butter. It is a light-pink with some brown undertones. Looks beautiful alone but can also be topped over a liquid lip, lipstick or liner.

Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer in Sandstone-This is my perfect nude gloss. It is not too pink, too clear, too brown or too rosy. As you can see, against my skin it just pops in a very neutral way. I love wearing this by itself for a very natural look or over a lip liner.

NYX Lipliner in Soft Brown- A beautiful light brown nude. This looks effortless on the lips and isn't drying. It glides on in a creamy way and defines my lips without looking too obvious. I love using this all over my lips and applying some chapstick or vaseline over for some added moisture.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte in Venus- If I had to pick a nude liquid lip I use most it is this product right here! This is my favorite formula of matte lips EVER- and trust me when I say, I have used them all. From drugstore to Kylie Cosmetics to very high-end such as Guerlain, nothing beats this one. The formula is so thin but so lightweight. The staying power is amazing and it feels like second skin. This nude is a PERFECT match for my skin tone.

Sephora Collection Lipliner in  Light Brown- This nude lip liner leans more on the rosy-pink side, but that is good when I want the color. Sometimes if I'm doing a very neutral makeup look I want my lips to carry some color. Sometimes a perfect nude lip can be too monochromatic and some pink undertones really can brighten up the face without being too overpowering.

Bare Minerals Gen Nude Buttercream Lip Gloss in Tantalize- I ran out and bought this after Jaclyn Hill recommended it in one of her tutorials. The way she described it- as glossy yet moisturizing and pigmented...I had to go get it. This remind me very much of the NYX Butter Gloss but more moisturizing and even more smooth. The pigmentation is a bit stronger as well. However, it is perfect by itself and over any other product. It is a light nude with some brown/pink undertones

and Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Stormy Sahara- I never thought a peachy nude would ever look good on me until I tried this lipstick. This is the ONLY peachy nude I have in my collection that works for my olive skin tone (and that is saying a lot). Every single other peachy nude I have tried makes me look washed out or is way too light. Nevertheless, this lipstick is an absolute amazing match for women who have some more color. It is a peachy nude PERFECTION to say the least. I cannot rave enough. This is my go-to daily lipstick and I love that it's drugstore!
